Companion Planting
One of the most practical methods for natural pest control is companion
planting. Basically, you cultivate two kinds of plants next to each
other so that the secondary crop protects the primary crop from pests.
This is achieved in many ways, of which the most notable is through the
sense of smell - bugs attracted to the primary plant are repelled by the
smell of the secondary plant.
Biological Pest Control
As soon as you detect harmful insects in your greenhouse plants, you must introduce their natural predators. This way, the beneficial insects can feast on the harmful bugs until there is no more food to be had, in which case they either die or search for food in other areas of your garden outside lean to greenhouses. Just keep in mind that quick intervention is crucial lest the harmful insects overrun the greenhouse and you may have to resort to commercial pesticides.
You must provide just the right environment for your insect friends to
do their job. Thus, you should never place these insects in areas where
commercial pesticides were applied as well as provide them with just
the right temperature. Said good insects include ladybugs, praying
mantis and lacewings, to name a few.
Homemade Remedies
And then there are homemade remedies in pest control that you can tap into. Not only are these proven effective but you can also save money on the purchase of commercial pesticides. After all, the materials are found in the kitchen and pantry.
- For example, you can combine household dish soap and water to use as
spray for aphids. You may also use vinegar and beer in innovative ways,
which can be found in many online sites.
